Hey look, it's another instance of "I SPEAK A LANGUAGE THEREFORE I AM AN EXPERT ON LINGUISTICS!!1". Because we just keep saying "okay" even when talking about things that are clearly not okay at all and surely we must be Doing It Wrong? And the only reason for this okay-mania has to be because the Dutch language is homg deteriorating!

Damn our need for conversational markers!

What, you mean people are, like, researching this crap and finding out that words can have different functions and meanings? Nooo!

I will however not be able to issue any more congratulations because I'll be HIDING IN SHAME because when I said I wasn't expecting us to win, I didn't mean I was expecting us to get rolled over like that. Gah!

*goes off to HIDE IN SHAME*

Apparently, if there were elections right this moment, Wilders' party (PVV, Party for Freedom--take name with extreme amounts of salts) would get between 26 (politieke barometer.nl) and 32 (Maurice de Hond) out of 150 seats in Parliament. 17-20 % of our electorate would vote for him. I just...

Let me sum up Wilders: 1. he hates Muslims, 2. he hates the EU (but not as much as he hates Muslims).

Perhaps as many as one fifth of the Dutch electorate would vote for a party whose entire platform is Islamophobia. *Cass's head goes BOOM*

Excuse me. I'LL HAVE TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE BECAUSE THE PEOPLE IN MY COUNTRY ARE THIS STUPID. DON'T WORRY, I WOULD JUMP OFF THE BRIDGE NEAR MY DAD'S HOUSE, IT'S REALLY NOT THAT HIGH I'D BE FINE. I totally had more planned but I'm (still) too surprised/disappointed/apalled/angry to be coherent. What the fuck, fellow Dutch people, what. the. fuck.

I find myself in the unpleasant situation that I want the current coalition to stay in power because the combined idiocy of CDA/PvdA/CU, even led by Balk, cannot possibly be anywhere near the fucking disaster it would be to have the PVV this large. If Balk IV sits it out, maybe Wilders will have lost a lot of those voters again. DDD:

Pfff

I know, I know, I'm biased to not having the results of a race changed days -- or honestly even minutes -- afterward, but based on... recent events, it seems to me the best course of action Saturday Sunday (WTF self?!) would've been not to give Trulli that penalty. Which... I believe I may have said something about?

Grrr.

PS -- The fail was Sunday's. McLaren being dumb is faily but not actually what I'm pissed about.

Today's race turned out to have an exciting finish, with a surprising podium people were all :D at no matter who they usually support (oh hai). The Kubica/Vettel thing was sad but impressive, as was seeing Vettel keep driving with only three wheels on (what?!). I don't know about anyone else, but I generally consider these Good Things (okay maybe not the crash).

So then, of course, there are complaints. (As you know, flist, I intensly dislike this kind of stuff, even when it benefits people I like.)

And for some reason, because fail never occurs by itself, that crash is now totally Vettel's fault? Why?

*sadface*

By the way, no, in cases like these I think "the spirit of the match/race/sport/whatever" is actually what should count, not The Rules. And by that I mean that excitement and sportsmanship and whatnot > following the rules to the letter. If you think I'm less CAPSLOCK-y and ranty about this episode of Rules > You, it's because I have to admit this case is slightly (but not all that much) less faily than the line-stepping. But only because those rules themselves still make me go oO. Also I'm contrary.

Vermeer >>> Stekelenburg

Why is this only getting through people's heads at a breakneck speed of one person at a time?

Okay, at this point I must admit I think a rock > Maarten but still.

PS -- oh hai PIERRE and hi JAAP

PPS -- Consider me shut up about Gregory v/d Wiel!

Okay so I thought I'd wait a while with approaching teachers for that recommendation (note to self: DO THAT THIS WEEKEND) because I wanted to find out what the hell was up with the gradeless course. Of course, I send that email this Wednesday (since I've been waiting since February ><) and have still not heard back, because my university will find some way to fail at life no matter what.

So now I have less than eleven days to stress out about approaching two of my teachers for recommendations, write an essay about my motivation for pursuing this master's programme, explain away that lost year (oh great good luck with that, self!), and supply them with an essay displaying my English proficiency (which will have to be either 15(!!) or "a few" pages long). They have to have all this on their desks by April 1st.

Yaaay!

Stupid. My uni has it.
